Raw denim is the most original form of denim fabric: unwashed, untreated and full of character. These fabrics come straight from the loom and develop a unique patina over time, created solely through wear. Every raw denim becomes a one‑of‑a‑kind piece – and that is precisely what makes it so fascinating.
Raw denim changes with every wear. At first it is firm and holds its shape well, but over time it becomes softer, more supple and gradually moulds to your body. This process – known as fading – makes each garment unique.

Raw denim is a strong, firm fabric. For best results, I recommend:
If you wish to minimise shrinkage, you can gently pre‑wash the fabric. You can find more information in my denim washing tips.
What does “raw” mean?
The fabric has neither been washed nor treated – it is in its original state.
How much does raw denim shrink?
Depending on the weight, between 3–10%. Pre‑washing reduces shrinkage.
How do I wash raw denim?
Infrequently, cold, inside out, low spin speed, and never in a tumble dryer.
Is raw denim suitable for beginners?
Yes, if you have a strong sewing machine, use a jeans needle suitable for the fabric weight, and sew slowly over thick areas. It is best to start with a denim under 12 oz.
Here you will find high‑quality raw denim fabrics in various colours and weights – from 7.8 oz to 15 oz, made from pure cotton or with recycled fibres.
